After high school, I decided to take a few years to explore my interests before I pursued a college degree. I built a lab where I could delve into my inclination towards electronics and computer science and worked on projects such as a Bicycle Phone Charger and an App-Controlled RC Car.
- I began Ignite Dreams – an initiative where I mentored underprivileged children of a village to create electronic devices. Through this initiative, I understood the value of knowledge application.
- Due to my initiative, Ignite Dreams, I was able to take part in workshops conducted by the MIT Media Labs where I had the opportunity to work with MIT students to solve real-world problems. These experiences made me more capable and confident of solving large-scale problems.
- I began Capture Joy – my initiative to spread happiness to others through my passion in photography by clicking photos of people and returning a printed copy to them.
- I established Jus’Print – a product to increase the efficiency of daily printing – as a response to the issues I faced while printing pictures for my initiative, Capture Joy. Witnessing the happiness people received by using our product, I learnt what it meant to apply knowledge for the good of others.
However, while I was running Jus’Print, due to a medical emergency within our family, I was forced to shut down the company and manage the financial situation at home. A year later, on more stabler grounds, I decided to apply for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Although I was eligible to attend college to obtain the degree, I was forced to take it up as a distance-education degree due to the few years I had, outside the conventional education system, after high school. However, the curriculum, I felt, was predominantly theoretical and not challenging enough and, therefore, learnt programming and digital marketing skills, on the side, with the help of online courses on platforms, such as Udemy, EDX and Stanford.edu
Fortunately, hailing from the same city as I do, my thirst for innovation was acknowledged by Shanmugam Nagarajan, Co-Founder of [24]7.ai – a multinational, customer acquisition and engagement company.
He was kind enough to provide me with a customized internship where I was given the convenience of spending a short period of time with each department of the company and to come up with process improvements. This gave me immense knowledge on how a large-scale company works and helped me understand the process of building and globalising products.
